The Tents

With 38 tents, you have alot of options. Here are a few ones we'd recommend:

Hacker Festzelt: Affectionately known as "The heaven of Bavaria", this is the most beautiful, in our opinion. The food here is some of the best.

Schottenhamel: As the oldest, this tent is where the mayor taps the first keg of the Oktoberfest every year. Traditional with a modern touch.

Hofbräu: One of the largest tents, with the most international visitors and lively atmosphere. The standing area is perfect for those without reservations.

Where to go

Oktoberfest is located on the Theresienwiese fairgrounds. You can get there easily by:

🚇 Metro: Taking the U4 or U5 to the station Theresienwiese

🚶 Walking 20 minutes from Yours Truly, down Bayerstrasse for 15 minutes then make a left at Hermann-Lingg-Strasse

When returning to the hotel, follow exit signs for Bayerstrasse, we are just a 2 minute walk away from the train station.

What to wear

Dirndl: You can mix & match the dress, apron and blouse, so everyone is sure to find a unique style. But make sure to tie your ribbon carefully-a bow on the front right means taken, front left means single. And please don't wear a fake plastic Dirndl!

Lederhosen: A pair of these will last you a lifetime. Whether you buy or rent, here's how to look best: wear a white shirt for a classic look, and don't forget knitted knee-high socks or cald warmers to complete the outfit.

Do's & Dont's

✅ Bring cash: Many tents do not accept card. There are a few ATMs on site, but the lines are sure to be long.

❌ Stand on tables: Standing on the benches is fine, as long as your neighbours are also in the mood to dance.

✅ Sing along: You'll hear this song played at regular intervals: "Ein prosit, ein prosit, Der Gemütlichkeit," This is a toast to cheers and drink!

✅ Tip the server: Contrary to popular belief, tipping is customary in Germany. An extra tip on your first round could also ensure you get checked up on more often.

❌ Chug your beer: This is the easiest way to get escorted out of the tent.

Foods to try

Käsespätzle: The German version of Mac 'n' Cheese

Brezn: Big Bavarian pretzels, aka the best snack to soak up all the beer

Bratwurst: If you don't have a table, there are plenty of food stands on the grounds to buy from.

Maß: Pronounced "maas", order this for a liter of the tent's beer. A head of foam makes the perfect pour.

Radler: Order a "Limo" soda to top off your beer. It's our tip to avoid (or reduce) a hangover.

Best rides to try

Riesenrad: Enjoy some panoramic views on the Oktoberfest ferris wheel. The line is usually long, but don't worry-400 people can fit inside all 40 gondolas, so you won't wait long.

Teufelsrad: The Devil's Wheel is a cult classic since 1910. Try to stay on the disk as long as possible, while it spins faster and faster.

Kettenflieger: For the adrenaline seekers the Carousel Tower is a great choice! Our tip-if your shoes are'nt secure, leave them on the ground. Otherwise you may lose them mid-air!
